The Bayelva catchment near Ny-Ă…lesund is a compact and highly dynamic Arctic environment where retreating glaciers, permafrost, lakes, groundwater, springs, rivers and fjord waters can be observed within one connected system. This makes it an ideal natural laboratory for studying freshwater change in the High Arctic.
